मुजफ्फरपुर: बिहार के मुजफ्फरपुर जिले की लीची देश में सबसे अधिक मीठी और रसीली मानी जाती है. यहां की लीची की मांग देश ही नहीं विदेशों में होती है, इसके बावजूद राज्य में लीची की खेती का क्षेत्र नहीं बढ़ पाया है. मुजफ्फरपुर राष्ट्रीय लीची अनुसंधान केंद्र अब लीची की खेती को बढ़ावा देने की पहल कर रहा है.
राष्ट्रीय लीची अनुसंधान केंद्र के निदेशक डॉ. विशालनाथ ने बताया कि चीन में 1950 के दशक में मात्र 26 हजार हेक्टेयर में लीची की खेती होती थी जबकि वहां आज 3.50 लाख हेक्टेयर क्षेत्र में लीची की खेती होती है.
उन्होंने राष्ट्रीय बागवानी बोर्ड के एक आंकडे का हवाला देते हुए कहा कि बिहार के दक्षिणी इलाकों को छोड़ दिया जाए तो राज्य के अधिकांश जिलों का वातावरण और मिट्टी लीची की खेती के उपयुक्त है, फिर भी पिछले कई वर्षों से यहां 34 से 35 हजार हेक्टेयर क्षेत्र में ही लीची की खेती हो रही है.
उन्होंने एक सर्वे का हवाला देते हुए कहा कि राज्य के अधिकांश क्षेत्र लीची उत्पादन के लिए सर्वाधिक उपयुक्त पाया गया है. उन्होंने बताया कि मिट्टी और जलवायु के दृष्टिकोण से राज्य के 50 लाख पांच हजार हेक्टेयर क्षेत्र से अधिक भूमि लीची के लिए उपयुक्त है. उन्होंने हालांकि यह भी माना है कि सभी क्षेत्रों में लीची की खेती नहीं हो सकती है लेकिन लीची के क्षेत्र को बढ़ाने की जरूरत है.
उन्होंने कहा कि बिहार में लीची की खेती की वृद्धि दर एक प्रतिशत से भी कम है, जबकि उत्तर प्रदेश, पश्चिम बंगाल राज्यों में इसकी वृद्धि दर तीन प्रतिशत से ज्यादा है. उन्होंने कहा कि गुजरात में भी लीची के प्रति किसानों का आकर्षण बढ़ा है.
डॉ. विशालनाथ ने यहां के किसानों की जागरूकता में भी कमी का हवाला देते हुए कहा कि यहां के अधिकांश किसान धान और गेहूं, मक्का की खेती के विषय में सोचते हैं. उन्होंने कहा कि जो लीची किसान भी हैं वे इसकी खेती को आगे बढ़ाने को लेकर ज्यादा उत्साहित नहीं होते हैं. उन्होंने क्षेत्रफल बढ़ाने की योजना बनाने पर बल देते हुए कहा कि क्षेत्रफल बढ़ाने के लिए योजना बनानी होगी.
