मुजफ्फरपुर, स्थापना के 148वें वर्ष पर जिला पहली बार अपना स्थापना दिवस रविवार (एक जनवरी) को मनाएगा। नव वर्ष के आयोजन के साथ स्थापना दिवस पर जिले में कई कार्यक्रम होंगे। इसके लिए समाहरणालय को नीली रोशनी से सजाया गया है। अन्य सरकारी कार्यालयों को भी सजाया गया है। विदित हो कि मुजफ्फरपुर जिले की स्थापना वर्ष 1875 में हुई थी। इसकी तिथि के बारे में प्रमाणिक जानकारी उपलब्ध नहीं थी। इस कारण से स्थापना दिवस का आयोजन नहीं हो सका था। जिला प्रशासन की ओर से इसके लिए प्रयास किए गए, मगर स्थापना की तिथि की जानकारी नहीं मिल सकी।
इस मामले में अधिवक्ता अशोक भारती ने कोलकाता में अंग्रेजी अखबार द स्टेटसमैन के 16 जनवरी 1875 के अंक में प्रकाशित नोटिफिकेशन उपलब्ध कराया। 11 जनवरी की तिथि को जारी आदेश में तिरहुत जिला को दो भाग में बांटा गया। दरभंगा मुख्यालय वाले पूर्वी तिरहुत जिले में दरभंगा, मधुबनी एवं ताजपुर सब डिविजन को शामिल किया गया। वहीं मुजफ्फरपुर मुख्यालय वाले पश्चिमी तिरहुत जिला में मुजफ्फरपुर, सीतामढ़ी और हाजीपुर सबडिविजन को शामिल किया गया।

बंगाल के गर्वनर के कार्यकारी सचिव एजे रेनाल्डस के इस नोटिफिकेशन में इसे एक जनवरी से प्रभावी माना गया। अशोक भारती द्वारा दिए गए इस प्रमाण के बाद एक जनवरी को जिले का स्थापना दिवस माना गया। पहली बार यह आयोजन हो रहा है। अगले साल से इसका बृहद आयोजन होगा।
स्थापना दिवस पर आज होने वाले कार्यक्रम
सुबह 10:30 बजे : प्रभातफेरी- अमृत महोत्सव पार्क से घूमते हुए समाहरणालय परिसर
सुबह 11:15 बजे : दीप प्रज्वलन के साथ गुब्बारा छोड़ा जाएगा और बच्चों की ओर से सांस्कृतिक कार्यक्रम की प्रस्तुति
शाम 5:00 बजे : आम्रपाली आडिटोरिय में रंगारंग कार्यक्रम
