पंजाब नेशनल बैंक में 14 हजार करोड़ रुपये के घोटाले में भगोड़ा घोषित हीरा कारोबारी नीरव मोदी के भारत प्रत्यर्पण पर लंदन की वेस्टमिंस्टर मजिस्ट्रेट अदालत ने गुरुवार को फैसला सुना दिया। अदालत ने कहा कि नीरव मोदी के खिलाफ भारत में एक मामला है जिसका उसे जवाब देना है।
अदालत ने अपने फैसले में कहा कि नीरव मोदी ने सबूत नष्ट करने और गवाहों को डराने के लिए साजिश रची।
अदालत ने यह भी कहा कि नीरव मोदी को मुंबई स्थित ऑर्थर रोड जेल में उचित चिकित्सकीय इलाज और मानसिक स्वास्थ्य देखभाल उपलब्ध कराई जाएगी। नीरव ने अपने खिलाफ आए प्रत्यर्पण आदेश को अदालत में चुनौती दी थी। दो साल लंबी कानूनी लड़ाई के बाद गुरुवार को जिला जज सैम्यूल गूजी ने फैसला सुनाया कि नीरव के खिलाफ कानूनी मामला है जिसमें उसे भारतीय अदालत में पेश होना चाहिए।

दो साल पहले नीरव मोदी को ब्रिटेन की स्कॉटलैंड यार्ड पुलिस ने 13 मार्च 2019 को लंदन से गिरफ्तार किया था, जिसके बाद से वह साउथ वेस्ट लंदन की वैंड्सवर्थ जेल में कैद है।फैसला सुनने के लिए नीरव मोदी वीडियो लिंक के जरिए वैंड्सवर्थ जेल से पेश हुआ। अब अदालत के फैसले को ब्रिटेन की गृह सचिव प्रीति पटेल के पास भेजा जाएगा जो तय करेंगी कि इस मामले में हाईकोर्ट में अपील की अनुमति दी जाए या नहीं।
