बीआर चोपड़ा के पौराणिक शो, ‘महाभारत’ में भीम की भूमिका निभाने वाले अभिनेता प्रवीण कुमार सोबती ने 74 वर्ष की आयु में ली आखिरी सांस। अभिनेता लंबे समय से बीमारी और आर्थिक तंगी से जूझ रहे थे। जानकारी के अनुसार कुछ समय पहले ही जीवन यापन करने के लिए प्रवीण कुमार ने पेंशन की गुहार लगाई थी। उन्होंने अपनी आर्थिक तंगी की जानकारी देते हुए सरकार से मदद भी मांगी थी।
एशियाई खेलों में कर चुके हैं भारत का प्रतिनिधित्व
अपनी कद काठी की वजह से प्रवीण कुमार सोबती लोगों के बीच काफी प्रसिद्ध थे। एक अभिनेता होने के अलावा, वह एक एथलीट भी थे। प्रवीण कुमार ने भारत के लिए एशियन गेम्स में 4 मेडल जीते थे। इनमें दो गोल्ड, एक सिल्वर और एक ब्रॉन्ज मेडल शामिल है। खेल की बदौलत ही उनको सीमा सुरक्षा बल (BSF) में डिप्टी कमांडेंट की नौकरी मिली थी लेकिन उनकी किस्मत में एक्टिंग की दुनिया में नाम कमाना था। 1986 में एक दिन पंजाबी दोस्त ने प्रवीण को आकर बताया कि बीआर चोपड़ा महाभारत बना रहे हैं और वो भीम के किरदार के लिए एक ताकतवर व्यक्ति ढूंढ रहे हैं। फिर वे बीआर चोपड़ा से मिले और फिर तय हो गया कि महाभारत में वे ही भीम का रोल प्ले करेंगे।
फिल्मों में निभाया विलेन का किरदार
आपको बता दें कि बीएसएफ की नौकरी छोड़ प्रवीण कुमार ने बॉलीवुड में कदम रखा था। कई फिल्मों में उन्होंने विलेन और बॉडीगार्ड का किरदार निभाया था। 1987 में आई अमिताभ बच्चन की फिल्म शहंशाह में भी वे नजर आए थे। इसके अलावा उन्होंने रक्षा, गजब, हमसे है जमाना, हम हैं लाजवाब, जागीर, युद्ध, सिंहासन, नामोनिशान, खुदगर्ज, लोहा, दिलजला, शहंशाह, कमांडो, मालामाल, अग्नि, बीस साल बाद, प्यार मोहब्बत, इलाका, एलान-ए-जंग, आज का अर्जुन, नाकाबंदी, बेटा हो तो ऐसा जैसी फिल्मों में काम किया है।
राजनीति में बनाया करियर
50 से ज्यादा फिल्मों में काम करने वाले अभिनेता प्रवीण की आखिरी फिल्म साल 2013 में रिलीज हुई थी। फिल्म का नाम ‘महाभारत और बर्बर’ था। प्रवीण कुमार सोबती ने यहां भीम का किरदार निभाया था। इसके बाद अभिनय छोड़ प्रवीण कुमार सोबती ने राजनीति में प्रवेश किया, उन्होंने आम आदमी पार्टी के टिकट पर दिल्ली के वजीरपुर से चुनाव लड़ा। लेकिन जीत न सके। कुछ समय बाद उन्होंने आप पार्टी छोड़कर भाजपा जॉइन कर लिया।
